Drummer WANTED
http://cautionarytales.band/
We’re a post-rock & post-punk band originally formed in New Zealand, currently working on our second album. The slightly banal elevator pitch is “if Leonard Cohen had a post-rock band.”
Our music includes elements of art-rock, post-rock, post-punk, and industrial, with influences from groups like Swans, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds, Low, Nine Inch Nails, Johnny Cash, Peter Murphy, Scott Walker, Orville Peck, and Einstürzende Neubauten.
We have several major gigs planned for this summer, including shows in Leipzig, Warsaw, and Berlin. We’re also recording and developing new material throughout the year. Both rehearsals & recording happen in our fully-equipped recording studio in Weissensee.
Our drummer unfortunately had to step down, and we need a dedicated, disciplined, and highly motivated musician to fill the role.
Technique: Strong technical skills are essential: nothing we’re doing is virtuosic, but it all requires precision, a solid grasp of rhythm and music theory, and practical studio & live skills.
Style: We’re looking for someone comfortable with both delicate and heavier sounds, with a creative and groove-oriented approach. We’re equally likely to need a heavy industrial rhythm, a country-style train beat, or some subtle brush work. Great references are Phil Puleo (of Swans) and Larry Mullins (of both Swans & the Bad Seeds).
Sound: Our first album is available on the usual channels, and we’ll provide links to newer material to folks who are interested. The newer material is generally more challenging!
Schedule: We’re rehearsing twice a week, with additional studio sessions as schedules allow. We’re all full-time musicians, most of us paying the bills through teaching, and our singer (and engineer) is working on the project full-time.
Commitment: We’re not looking for a temporary session drummer just for the upcoming shows, but a permanent band member. If you’re looking to get paid upfront, this isn’t the right project for you!
However, if you’re looking to join a committed project with ambitious long-term goals, and especially if you’re looking for the perfect opportunity to develop your skillset to the professional, touring level — it absolutely is.
