Cover Art for our debut

We’re putting the finished touches on our cover art, inspired by the golden age of children’s illustration. As a child I was hypnotised by the darkness and complexity of vintage children’s books, which I found starkly in contrast to the cartoonish, colourful style typically seen now.

We wanted art evocative of this period, with an otherworldly strangeness, and nothing narrative or explicative to hold onto. We found Spanish illustrator Ana Sabela, who did the original illustration our artwork is based on.

Here’s an initial sketch, and a couple of influences (Arthur Rackham and Aubrey Beardsley), and our illustrator Ana Sabela with the original ink & watercolour illustration.
